I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was filled with food, family, football, and a nap or two! It was the perfect relaxing long weekend. Now I am ready to take on the Christmas season! 

To kick off the holiday season, I am joining some other bloggers to give you dollar store Christmas decor ideas! See how I made this Farmhouse inspired Christmas tree and then be sure to check out some of the other fun projects!

If you're like me, I love adding greenery to little vignettes around the house for the holidays. But getting little trees from Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel can cost you upwards of $30 or more! They sure are pretty, but I just couldn't splurge on those.

Instead, I picked up an 18 inch green mini-tree at my local Dollar Tree and used some white spray paint with primer to make my mini-tree dreams come true.

What You Need

• Mini-Tree (Dollar Tree - $1 each)

• White Spray Paint + Primer (Amazon)

• Mini-Pine Cones (Optional- Walmart $1.98)

• Bucket, Flannel fabric, or Burlap

First, remove the tree from the box and setup on the provided stand. Fluff up the branches to ensure you can apply the spray paint.

Spray paint light layers of white spray paint to get the desire frost effect. Remember to start light and continue adding, as you can always add more paint, but it's tough to take off. If you get a little too much in one spot, you can immediately wipe it down with a paper towel. 

For a more flocked effect, you will want to explore using actual flocking spray, but I decided I didn't need the 3D look and it was a way to save some money since I already had a can of spray paint around.

One of my favorite bloggers to follow, Cassie at Home, also used white spray paint + primer in a recent project she shared on Instagram, and I liked how it turned out. She recommended using a paint with primer to speed up the drying process. Worked like a charm for me. I did a few layers and allotted for about 10-15 minutes of dry time in between coats. Make sure to get underneath branches as well.

Do as many coats until you get your desired color. I still wanted some green showing through.

To dress up the tree, I added some mini pine cone ornaments that I picked up at Walmart for under $2. Adding anything to the tree is completely optional.

You can see the tree came with a stand, but that made it rather wide and didn't fit into many of the containers I had on hand. Instead, I hot glued the tree to a scrap piece of birch wood and wrapped up the base in some flannel fabric with twine. 

And, there you have it! My DIY farmhouse mini tree!
