Dragons Love Tacos: Fiesta Themed Silent Auction Basket

Silent auctions are a fun and easy way to raise money for schools, churches, teams, nonprofits, and more! Each year my daughter’s school asks for donated baskets to support a silent auction for a local charity.

This year, I made a basket inspired by the beloved children’s book, “Dragons Love Tacos.”

What You Need

  • Basket

  • Tissue paper

  • Colored crinkle paper

  • Dragons Love Tacos book

  • Taco making kit

  • Tortilla chips

  • Assorted Jarritos sodas

  • Margarita mix

  • Margarita salt

  • Festive napkins or plates

Step 1:

Start by bunching up some tissue paper in the bottom of a basket. This creates a heavier base and elevates the items so people can see them better when they are on display. Then, cover the tissue paper with the colored crinkle shred. Here, I used orange to go with the theme. Dollar Tree usually has a great assortment of colors. Baskets can be expensive brand new, so I always start by looking at a local Goodwill or other thrift store. There’s usually a great selection of baskets for under $5. Good for your budget and the environment!

Step 2:

Arrange your basket with all your goodies! Try to add some height and layer in the items. Don’t be afraid to rearrange until you like how everything looks. Many of the items in this basket you can easily pickup at your local grocery store. I grabbed the taco kit, chips, salsa, margarita salt, and mix all on a regular grocery run. Dollar Tree is a great place to grab individual bottles of the Jarritoas soda and they have seasonally available festive plates and napkins as well. You can also easily order those online. The book I ordered from Amazon.

Step 3:

Consider wrapping the basket in some cellphone wrap. Dollar Tree is also a great place to pick up a basket-ready size. In this case, our school does the cellophane wrapping, so I didn’t need to worry about it.

Now, sit back and enjoy raising some money for a good cause!
