Traveling from Miss to Mrs. - A Travel Themed Bridal Shower

With less than two months to go until the big day, it is easy to get stressed about all of the little things left to do. Having my second bridal shower was the perfect reminder that the important part of our wedding day will be getting married to one another and sharing it with all of the wonderful people we have in our lives.

In early August, I arrived to a travel-themed shower planned by Chris' mom and my mom. Chris' sister and his aunt also put in a lot of time and energy make the day special!

Walking into the front door, guests were greeted with a station to write Chris and I their best advice, which then were folded into cute paper plane “air mail.” Guests could also select a set of handmade magnets of local cities and popular vacation destinations to take home as a thank you gift.

Straight ahead guests could see Chris' and my love of travel. My mom used a map of the North America to display photos of where we have traveled together as a couple. She created a fun timeline with tags to point out fun facts about our trips and important places where relationship milestones took place. This was a favorite among guests and we decided it could be a fun concept to make one with family vacations or even just cool photos of places you've been.

Chris' mom, aunt, and sister prepared a beautiful array of snacks, salad, quiche and desserts for everyone to enjoy. There was also a delicious champagne punch to sip on in dainty vintage cups along with adorable personalized water bottles. Here are a few snapshots of some of the delicious snacks, complete with state-themed toothpick flags.

The main table was adorned with a vintage suitcase my mom picked up for $10 of off Craigslist. She picked out some travel-themed fabric for the inside and used it to house the plates and napkins that she found on Amazon. Hanging inside were some vintage postcards of the three states I've called home over the years. The vignette was made complete with a fun wooden box and a globe.

Chris' sister found some gorgeous fresh flowers at the Farmer's Market and created beautiful arrangements for the table and around the house. In addition to the flower, a heart garland my mom crafted from map paper hung across the fireplace. A tutorial for how to make a similar garland can be found here.

There were also framed travel sayings and a map-themed "H" which could stand for Holly or Hulke! Chris' mom also set out some special bride and groom dolls that were handmade by his grandmother. The bride doll even has curly hair like me!

After eating, we played three shower games that fit the theme as well. For the first game, guests were asked to grab their purses, clutches or wallets. They earned a variety of points for items in their bags and the guest who earned the most points won a prize. Next, guests tried to guess what 25 things I might include on my honeymoon packing list. I brainstormed my list and the guest who had the list most similar to me won a prize. Finally, we played travel bingo which included places Chris and I had been. The first person to bingo was me, so I got an awesome camping cookbook with some much needed aluminum foil for campfire cooking. The other two prizes were Starbucks gift cards that my mom dressed up to go with the travel theme.

After the games, my hubby-to-be made an appearance at the festivities. The wonderful afternoon ended with opening some exciting gifts that we both have already put to use! And, don't forget to send your guest thank yous! Using these coordinating cards that my Mom bought me made it more fun writing them all out!
